Trinity Fall Sports Teams Earn Numerous Postseason Honors
San Antonio – Trinity’s athletics teams enjoyed several All-Region and All-American honors following the 2012 fall sports season.
Earlier this fall, the men’s and women’s cross country teams had 11 total runners earn All-Region honors, as the teams both qualified for the NCAA Championships for the first time in school history. Head Coach Derick Lawrence led both teams to their first-ever SCAC Championships, then was named the USTFCCCA Women’s Regional Coach of the Year after leading the Tiger women to the Regional Championship.
In volleyball, Trinity had Maryn Swierc, Meredith Erwin, and Layne Hubbard all earn All-Region honors from the AVCA, while Erwin and Hubbard were also named Honorable Mention All-Americans after the season. The Tigers finished second at the SCAC Tournament, but earned the first NCAA Playoff bid since 2009.
The Tiger football team finished 7-3 on the season, missing out on the NCAA Playoffs, but winning the team’s second straight SCAC Championship. Mason Lytal and Tomy Boboy both earned All-Region honors from D3Football.com, while Lytal was also a Beyond Sports Network All-American.
Both men’s and women’s soccer had players earn All-America and All-Region honors as well. There were six men's players and six women's players who earned NSCAA All-Region recognition. Emily Jorgens was the only Trinity women’s soccer player to earn All-America honors, and was selected to both the NSCAA and the D3Soccer.com All-America Teams. Yuri Ribeiro, Michael Micheletti, and Matt Cardone all earned All-America honors for the Trinity men’s soccer team. Ribiero and Micheletti earned the honor from D3soccer.com, while Ribeiro and Cardone were NSCAA All-Americans. Both Trinity soccer teams won the SCAC Tournament and reached the NCAA Playoffs this season
