Tiger Baseball Finishes Regular Season With Shutout Victory
San Antonio - Trinity's baseball team finished up its 2012 regular season with a 10-0 shutout over Austin College on Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers finish the regular season with an overall record of 32-8, which includes a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference mark of 18-4. Trinity is the SCAC West Division's top seed at next weekend's SCAC Tournament.
Tanner Barron combined with two other Tiger pitchers for the shutout victory, improving to 3-0 this season. Barron struck out three batters in six innings, allowing no runs on six hits.
Trinity opened the game with three runs in the first two innings, then exploded for seven runs in the sixth to set up the run-rule. The Tigers had six of their 13 hits in that inning, highlighted by a grand slam from Pat Hirschberg.
Hirschberg went 2-3 with one run and four RBI in the game, while Dominick Robusto also had two hits and scored three times. Kevin Francke was 1-3 with two runs scored, and Nick Pappas had two hits and two RBI for the Tigers. Tim Stanton also went 2-4, and every Trinity starter had at least one hit in the game.
Trinity will face Millsaps College in the opening game of the SCAC Championships Tournament on Thursday, April 26. The game is scheduled for a noon start, and will be the opening game of the four-day tournament. The Tigers will be shooting for a third consecutive SCAC Championship, and a third straight trip to the NCAA Playoffs.
