Trinity Student-Athletes Named to SCAC All-Sportsmanship Teams

San Antonio – Eight Tiger student-athletes have been named to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Teams following the 2012 spring sports season.

The SCAC places a special emphasis on sportsmanship each year, and has begun to recognize student-athletes in each of its sponsored sports who exhibit sportsmanship.  Coaches from each of the sports elect one member of their team who has displayed good sportsmanship throughout the season.

Pitcher Ben Klimesh was the representative for Trinity’s baseball team, and was also recently named a D3baseball.com All-American.  In golf, Felipe Benalcazar represented the Tiger men, while Julia Orrange was the Trinity women’s team selection.  Kayleigh Kinlaw was Trinity’s selection for the All-Sportsmanship Softball Team.

In track & field, Robert Buckreis and MK Stewart were both elected for the SCAC award.  Tennis players Max Frey and Kassie Seger were also chosen for the honor.  Frey will also play in the NCAA Singles Championship, starting later this week in Cary, North Carolina.

Trinity’s spring sports teams also helped the school reclaim the SCAC “Bell Trophy,” which is awarded to the league’s best overall sports program.  The Tigers won SCAC titles in men’s and women’s tennis, finished second in both women’s track & field and softball, and did not finish below fifth in any sport during the 2011-12 school year.  Of Trinity’s 18 intercollegiate sports, 13 finished in the top three in the final standings.
