San Antonio - Trinity senior kicker Colby Doyal has been selected as the Southern Athletic Association Special Teams Player of the Week.
Doyal's career-high 48-yard field goal could not have come at a more opportune time as the Tigers edged Rhodes (TN) College 40-34 in an SAA overtime thriller at home last week. Doyal booted the field goal as time expired to tie the game at 34-34. His field goal is tied for the third longest in Tiger football history.
Doyal's first field goal in the game was a 27-yard kick through the uprights in the third quarter. He also was flawless in going 4-4 on extra-point attempts. This season, Doyal has connected on 3-7 field goals, and has gone 17-17 in extra-point attempts.
Trinity's first-ever SAA home game victory increased the team's winning streak to four games. The Tigers are sporting a 4-1 overall record and are undefeated in the SAA with a 3-0 mark.
Up next is a Saturday conference home matchup with Centre (KY) College at 1:00 p.m. The Trinity Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2017 will be inducted at halftime.
