Matt Uzzell, a 2001 Trinity graduate, has completed three seasons as the Tigers offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. He has worked for four overall Trinity campaigns.
Prior to joining the Trinity staff in 2014, Coach Uzzell had been the offensive coordinator of San Antonio’s Southside High School, since 2009. During his tenure, Coach Uzzell helped guide the Cardinals to two district runner-up finishes. The versatile Coach Uzzell also was the head track and field coach since the spring of 2013.
From 2002-2009, Coach Uzzell was the defensive line coach at San Antonio's Harlandale High School. In addition, Coach Uzzell was Harlandale’s special teams coordinator, beginning in 2004. The Indians reached the state quarterfinals and won two district championships during the time period. Coach Uzzell also coached Harlandale’s track and field team.
After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Trinity in composite social studies (history concentration), Coach Uzzell became the Tigers’ offensive line coach for one season. Coach Uzzell went on to receive a master’s in educational administration (2010) from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.
As a Trinity offensive guard, Coach Uzzell was selected for the USA Football All-America Team in 2000. He also was elected to the All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Team the same year.
While playing for San Antonio's McCollum High School, Coach Uzzell was named an All-Greater San Antonio offensive lineman, and was a unanimous All-District honoree.
Coach Uzzell also serves in multiple roles for the Still Water Ministry Camps in Blanco, Texas.
He is married to the former Jenna Smith, a 2005 Trinity grad who was a member of the Tigers 2003 NCAA Division III National Championship women’s basketball team. She is Trinity’s all-time leader in career, single-season, and single-game steals. The couple has three young daughters, Allie, Abigail, and Annistyn.
