Men's Golf Stands Sixth After Opening Round of SCAC Championships

Tunica, Mississippi - Trinity's men's golf team is in sixth place after the first of three rounds at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Friday.

The Tigers shot a combined score of 306 at the par-72 Tunica National Golf Course.  Oglethorpe leads the field with a 291 after the opening day, followed by Centre at 294 and Birmingham-Southern at 298.

Southwestern is just two strokes in front of Trinity, while Rhodes has the Tigers beat by just one stroke after the first round.

First-year Kalen Vos leads Trinity with an even-par score of 72 on Friday, tying for fifth place individually.  Geoffrey Setiawan shot a 77 to finish in a 20th-place tie, while Warren Taylor's 78 was good enough for a tie for 22nd.  Felipe Benalcazar and Tyler Lehmann round out Trinity's team on day one, shooting a 79 and 81, respectively.

The three-round tournament continues tomorrow, with 10 teams fighting for the SCAC title that comes with an automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs.
