San Antonio - The Trinity men's soccer team has been ranked #2 in the nation by the United Soccer Coaches final regular-season NCAA Division III Poll.
Led by 27th-year Head Coach Paul McGinlay, the Tigers stand at 20-1-0 season, and are on a 15-game winning streak. Trinity has been ranked second nationally for five consecutive weeks. The Tigers are also tops in the NCAA West Region.
Last week, Trinity captured its 20th Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship, in the tournament held at Irving, Texas. The Tigers battled Austin (TX) College to a 2-1 Semifinals decision, and then blanked host University of Dallas 4-0 to win their sixth straight league title.
With an automatic NCAA Division III Tournament bid in hand, Trinity will host the first two rounds of the postseason event this weekend. The Tigers, competing in their 21st tournament, will play a first-round game at 5:00 p.m. Saturday against the University of Texas-Tyler. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX), ranked 18th, meets Willamette (OR) University at 7:30 p.m. The winners play in Sunday's second round at 7:00 p.m.
The NCAA Sectionals are set for November 17-19, at a site to be announced. The NCAA Semifinals and Finals will be held December 1-2 at Greensboro, North Carolina.
The Tigers are ranked 13th nationally in both total goals and points, according to the latest statistical rankings published by the NCAA.
