Two Men's Tennis Singles Players Reach Semis; Doubles Team in the Finals

Tyler, Texas - A Trinity doubles team advanced to the doubles championship, and two singles players will compete in the semifinals Monday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southwest Region Championships.

 

SUMMARY

The second-seeded team of Wilson Lambeth and Matt Tyer advanced to Monday's ITA Doubles Championship.

Fifth-seeded Chas Mayer and teammate McKenna Fujitani will play each other in the singles semifinals.

The singles and doubles champions of the main draws advance to the ITA Oracle Cup October 13-16 at Surprise, Arizona.

 

HIGHLIGHTS

#2 seeds Wilson Lambeth and Matt Tyer defeated the third-seeded duo of the University of Texas-Tyler's Arthur Fagundes and Vinicio Hadlich 8-5 in Sunday's doubles semifinals. The Trinity tandem will take on #5 Joey Fischer and Pablo Gomez of UT-Tyler for the title on Monday.

Fifth-seeded Chas Mayer beat #2 Vinicio Hadlich of UT-Tyler 6-2, 6-2 in the singles quarterfinals Sunday.

McKenna Fujitani defeated seventh-seeded Scott Wilding of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX) 6-4, 7-5 in the singles quarters.

Cameron Bilsbarrow and Liam Crawley lost to Joey Fischer and Pablo Gomez of UT-Tyler 8-6 in Sunday's doubles semifinals.

Fourth-seeded Chas Mayer and Clayton Niess lost in the doubles quarterfinals, as did #7 Paul Bhatia and Jordan Pitts.

 

NOTABLES

Matt Tyer will play for the ITA Region Doubles Championship for the second consecutive time. Last year, Tyer and former Tiger Adam Krull won the regional title, and then went on to capture the National Small College Championship.

The singles semifinals are set for 8:00 a.m. Monday, with the championship to follow. The doubles championship will be played later in the day.
