Tiger Men's Tennis Players Tyer and Lambeth Win Oracle Cup Opener

Surprise, Arizona - The second-seeded Trinity doubles team of Matt Tyer and Wilson Lambeth advanced to the main draw of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Oracle Cup on Wednesday.

 

HIGHLIGHTS

Matt Tyer and Wilson Lambeth defeated Spencer Watanabe and Alex Namba of George Fox (OR) University 6-3, 6-3 in Wednesday's Division III Doubles play-in match.

The Tiger duo advanced to Thursday's quarterfinals.  Friday's semifinals begin early in the afternoon, with the winners advancing to the championships later in the day.

 

NOTABLES

Matt Tyer and Wilson Lambeth earned a berth in the ITA Oracle Cup Doubles tournament by winning the Southwest Region Championship October 3, at Tyler, Texas.

Tyer and former Trinity player Adam Krull captured last year's ITA National Small College Doubles Championship at Sumter, South Carolina. The name of the tournament was changed, to the ITA Oracle Cup, and the venue was moved to Surprise, Arizona.

While the Division III Doubles Tournament continues through Friday, the "Super Bowl" is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.  The Super Bowl is a separate tournament that consists of the Oracle Cup winners of NCAA Divisions II and III, the NAIA, and National Junior College Athletic Association.

Matt Tyer and Wilson Lambeth will compete in the Doubles quarterfinals Thursday at 3:00 p.m. MST. The Tiger tandem meets Tyler Raclin and Max Hawkins of the University of Chicago (IL).
