San Antonio - The top-seeded Trinity men's tennis team defeated #4 seed Schreiner (TX) University 5-0 in the semifinals of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday.
13th-ranked Trinity earned a berth in the final for the 26th consecutive year. The Tigers will meet second-seeded Southwestern (TX) University for the title.
The Tigers jumped on the chance to win just two singles matches for the victory. Lambeth won #2 singles 6-0, 6-0, and Pitts clinched the dual match with a 6-1, 6-0 decision on the third line.
Four matches did not finish as a result of the clinch by the Tigers: #1 singles (Mayer), #4 singles (Crawley), the fifth line (Niess), and the sixth matchup (McKenna Fujitani).
The Tigers won their fourth straight match, and now stand at 15-10. Schreiner is sporting a record of 14-7, and meets #3 Austin (TX) College for third place.
Trinity and Southwestern will vie for the title for the third straight time. The Tigers have won seven SCAC Championships in a row.
