Trinity Softball Splits Doubleheader with Schreiner
San Antonio - The Trinity University Tigers softball team split a doubleheader with the Schreiner University Mountaineers Saturday afternoon.

In the first game, the Tigers were down 5-2, when they rallied for two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The two RBIs were provided by senior designated hitter Caitlin Richards and junior second baseman Alexa Calderon. Trinity left a runner on base in the sixth inning, and the side was retired in the seventh.

The second game was tight from the beginning, as the score was tied at 1-1 after one inning of play. The Tigers scored on an RBI double by first-year first baseman Megan Russell of Fort Worth, Texas (Boswell), who batted 2-3 with three RBIs. Schreiner scored a run in the top of the third, and Trinity countered with two in the fifth. But the Mountaineers took a 4-3 lead with two runs in the sixth.
After a three-base error scored one run and put the winning run on third, schreiner intentionally walked the next two batters to set up a force play at every base. The winning run was scored on a squeeze bunt by Rush, plating MacPherson.
First-year right-hander Sarah Rabaey of Round Rock, Texas (Round Rock), went the distance and picked up the victory. Rabaey (1-1) allowed four earned runs, eight hits, no walks, and fanned six Schreiner batters.
Sophomore outfielder Rachel Garrett of Round Rock (Round Rock) batted 3-3 and scored one run. MacPherson hit 1-4 and produced two runs.
The Tigers scored four earned runs, smacked six hits, committed one error, and left eight players on base. Schreiner made two errors and stranded four players.
Trinity will play in the LeTourneau Tournament Feb. 26-27 at Longview, Texas. The Tigers return home March 2 to host Texas Lutheran in a doubleheader.
