San Antonio - The Trinity softball team dropped its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader with Centenary (LA) College Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers were edged 3-2 in the 10-inning opener with the Ladies and then lost the second game 7-4.
Centenary opened the top half of the twin bill with a run in the second inning. The Tigers smacked a double to open the second inning and was able to score later in the inning on a throwing error.
Neither team scored a run over the next seven innings. In the top of the 10th, the Ladies produced two runs by an RBI double and single. Rebecca Berreth cracked an RBI single in the 10th, but it would prove to be Trinity's final scoring play of the game.
Each team scored one run in the first inning of game two. Centenary widened the lead with a three-run second inning on one hit and a Trinity error. The Ladies took a 7-1 lead with two runs in the third and one in the fifth.
Berreth drove in a run in the fifth, and Adrienne Edwards hit a two-RBI double as the Tigers closed to 4-7.
Trinity stands at 9-15 and 2-8 SCAC.
Fifth-year Tiger Head Coach Brandi Crnkovic was honored prior to the start of game one. Trinity was on the road March 15-17 at the Tucson (AZ) Invitational Games when Coach Crnkovic earned her 100th career victory.
Rebecca Berreth batted 2-5 with an RBI in the opener and hit 2-4 with an RBI and a run in the second game. Berreth accounted for a double in each game and leads the team with nine in her column.
Katie Castillon pitched the entire first game, took the loss and now stands at 6-6.
Katie Glomb went the full seven innings in game two. Glomb (3-9) fanned five players, yielded only three earned runs, five hits, and three walks.
Trinity and Centenary conclude their series Sunday with a doubleheader scheduled for noon and 2:00 p.m.
