Trinity Sweeps Austin College in SCAC Doubleheader

Sherman, Texas - The Tiger softball team swept a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader with Austin College on Sunday, winning 12-2 and 5-1.

 

GAME SUMMARIES

Trinity opened the scoring of game one with a single run in the second inning, but Austin answered quickly with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 2-1 lead.

The Tigers reclaimed the lead with a four-run third, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Danielle Ruiz.

A seven-run seventh inning punctuated the Trinity win, which began with a three-run double from pinch-hitter Marisa Trevino.

Game two saw the Tigers jump in front again with a run in the first, and the 'Roos tied the game with a run in the third. 

Neither team scored again until the seventh, with Trinity knocking five hits and taking advantage of two errors to plate four more runs.  

 

NOTABLES

The Tigers improved their season record to 13-19, and move up to fifth place in the SCAC with a 5-11 mark. Austin College dropped to 5-29 and 2-18 in conference play.

Trinity won the series 3-1, after splitting Saturday's doubleheader with Austin.

Marisa Trevino drove in five runs in the two games, hitting a three-run double in the seventh inning of game one, and a two-run single in the seventh of the series finale.

Danielle Ruiz matched Trevino with three RBI in game one, and chalked up four total RBI on the day.

Hilary Hoffman batted 5-7 in the two games, including a 3-3 performance in game one. She also amassed two RBI in today's doubleheader.

Sara McCarty was a 3-5 hitter in the opening matchup, and scored two runs for the Tigers.

Katie Castillon (7-8) nabbed the complete-game victory in game one, fanning eight Austin players along the way.

Katie Glomb (5-9) also had a complete-game victory in game two, striking out four batters in her seven innigns of work.

The Tigers conclude their regular-season home slate over Easter Weekend, taking on 12th-ranked Texas Lutheran University in a pair of SCAC doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday.  Friday's action gets underway at 1:00 p.m.
