Tiger Softball Swept by #10 Texas Lutheran on Senior Day

San Antonio - The Trinity softball team concluded its regular season home schedule with two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference losses to 10th-ranked Texas Lutheran University on Saturday.

GAME SUMMARIES

Trinity lost the opener 9-1 in a five-inning run-rule game, and then dropped the SCAC weekend series finale by a score of 7-2.

The Bulldogs began the day's scoring by scoring four unearned runs on two hits and two Tiger errors in the top of the second inning.

After TLU added another score in the third, Trinity got on the board with an unearned run of its own in the bottom half of the third to make it a 5-1 game.

Trinity gave up four more runs in the top of the fifth, and Texas Lutheran held on to the run-rule victory.

Game two was highlighted by a pitcher's duel between Maitlin Raycroft of TLU and Katie Castillon of Trinity.  The two pitchers combined to allow just one hit in the first four innings, and neither team was able to score until the sixth.

Texas Lutheran finally broke through with a two-run sixth inning, cracking a pair of two-out hits to take the lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, Trinity ended a streak of 12 consecutive innings without a hit against Raycroft, and did it with a bang.  The Tigers scored two runs on three two-out hits and a walk to tie the game.

In the seventh, Texas Lutheran punctuated a five-run inning with a three-run homer to take a 7-2 lead, and the Tigers were unable to mount one final comeback.

Trinity now stands at 13-23 and 5-15 SCAC. Texas Lutheran, which also won Friday's DH, improved to 34-4 and 22-0.

Danielle Ruiz drove in a run in each half of the doubleheader, as well as collecting one of three Tiger hits in game two.

Hailey Wilson and Rebecca Berreth chalked up Trinity's runs in the second game of the day. Berreth drew two walks in the game, while Wilson broke up TLU's no-hit bid with a two-out single in the sixth.
