San Antonio - Trinity's first-year student-athletes Mabel Fowler and Daniel Valmassei have been selected as the respective Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer and Men's Diver of the Week.
Each contributed to their teams' victories last Saturday over NCAA Division II member University of Texas of the Permian Basin. The Tiger men beat the Falcons 138-123, and the women won by a score of 156-100.
Fowler heated up Hixon Natatorium with three individual and one relay win in the women's meet. She captured the 200-yard freestyle in 2:00.12, the 200-yard backstroke in 2:09.57, and the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:56.10. All three times are the best in the SCAC. Fowler was also part of the winning quartet in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:53.98.
Valmassei earned Men's Diver of the Week accolades for the second straight time. He won the 1-meter board, beating the UT-Permian Basin diver by 4.8 points. The week before, Valmassei won the 1-meter event against a Division I team, San Antonio's University of the Incarnate Word.
Earlier, Valmassei qualified for the NCAA Division III Zone Diving Championships. The event will be hosted by Trinity March 2-3 at San Antonio's Palo Alto College Natatorium.
Tiger swimmers and divers will compete at the the Trinity Tiger Invitational November 17-19 at Palo Alto College Natatorium.
