Walnut, California - Three Tiger women's distance runners competed at the Mt. Sac Relays in California on Thursday night, and Trinity senior Maddie Murphy raced to the finish with a time that is in the top 10 in Division III this season.
Murphy finished 13th against mainly non-Division III competition in the 10,000 meter race, shattering her personal record by nearly 30 seconds. Her time of 36:08.55 is 10th in the nation, and almost certainly will be fast enough to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships at the end of the season.
Vanessa Moreno also finished in the top 20 in the 10K with her time of 36:47.43, which also ranks her in the top 25 nationally. Earlier in the evening, Jaclyn Newell competed in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, finishing 19th with at time of 11:27.42 in her heat.
Trinity's men's and women's track & field teams will host the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on April 25-26. Both Tiger teams will be looking to defend last year's conference titles.
