San Antonio – Trinity's men's and women's track & field teams opened up competition at the University of the Incarnate Word (TX) Invitational on Friday.
Affognon was 14th in the shot put, reaching 11.79 meters on her third and final throw. That mark ranks her second in school history, and she is less than a meter away from the record of 12.49 meters set by Kathy Bieser in 1997.
McCullough established a new personal-best in the 1500 meter run, posting a time of 4:47.40 at today's meet. McCullough came in as the fifth-best in school history, but improved her previous best time by nearly 30 seconds.
Trinity had five runners in the top 20 in the women's 1500 meter race, including Jordan Juran in 13th, Brianna Ratliff in 18th, Olive Pertuit in 19th, and Laura Taylor in 20th place. Juran was just over six seconds behind McCullough in the race, finishing under five minutes.
The men's 1500 meter race also featured several Tiger runners, with Michael Erickson leading the way with a 10th-place time of 4:01.70. Elliot Blake was just behind his teammate in 11th place, finishing just 0.14 seconds back. Harry Bellow came in 15th and Benjamin Creasy was 18th to round out the men's runners in the top 20.
Emma MacEachern led Trinity's women in the 5000 meter run by finishing in sixth place overall in under 19 minutes.
Both Tiger teams will continue at the UIW Invitational on Saturday.
