Trinity Women's Basketball Opens Washington Trip with Loss to Puget Sound
Tacoma, Wash. - The Puget Sound Loggers beat the Trinity Tigers
women 58-44 Sunday night in a non-conference basketball game at
Memorial Fieldhouse.
Trinity now stands at 1-3, and Puget Sound, which received votes in
the d3hoops.com poll, improved to 3-1.
Tiger sophomore post Jana Tucker of Katy, Texas (Seven Lakes), led
the team with 16 points. Tucker shot 4-10 from the field and sank
7-7 free throws.She also picked up four rebounds.
Sophomore guard Anne Waidelich of Floyd, Texas (Bland), added nine
points and a team-best eight rebounds. Senior guard Danielle
Hubenak of San Antonio (Churchill) scored five points, pulled in
four rebounds, and made two assists. Junior forward Abby Dietert of
Cibolo, Texas (Steele), also scored five points, and accounted for
five rebounds and two steals.
Down 20-31 at halftime, the Tigers pulled to within five points in
the second half. First-year guard Nicole Halbleib of Aurora, Colo.
(Grandview), hit a jumper at 8:09 (35-40); and first-year forward
Libby Kruse (of Minnestrista, N.M. (Orono), made it 39-44 at
5:32.
Puget Sound's Lindsay Layland registered a double-double, with 19
points and 18 rebounds.
Trinity shot 30.2 percent (16-53) from the field, as did Puget
Sound (19-63). The Loggers held a 56-34 advantage in rebounding.
The Tigers sank 80 percent (8-10) of their free throws, and the
Loggers made 60 percent (15-25).
The Tigers conclude their West Coast trip Monday, with a 7 p.m.
Pacific (9 p.m. Central) game in in Tacoma against Pacific
Lutheran.
