Trinity’s Carla Spenkoch Named SCAC Women’s Golf Coach of the Year

San Antonio - Trinity's Carla Spenkoch has been elected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Women's Golf Coach of the Year for the third time in her coaching career.

Coach Spenkoch guided her Tiger team to the SCAC Championship last April, marking the second consecutive year Trinity brought home the first-place trophy. It was also the third title in the last four years. She earlier was elected the Coach of the Year in 2014 and 2016, following Trinity's championship seasons.

The Tigers finished the 2017 SCAC Championship two-round event with an eight-stroke advantage over second-place Schreiner (TX) University at Vaaler Creek Golf Club in Boerne, Texas. Junior Shelby DeVore and sophomore Elizabeth McGillivray each tied for third place in the individual competition, earning All-SCAC First Team honors. Junior Taylor Moser and senior Christine Campbell made the All-SCAC Second Team with respective 9th and 10th-place finishes.

Trinity captured its Alamo City Classic last October at San Antonio's The Quarry Golf Club. The Tigers led runner-up Hardin-Simmons (TX) University by 22 strokes. Additionally, Coach Spenkoch led the Tigers to a #23 Division III national ranking by Golfstat.
