Women's Soccer Blanks UT-Dallas to Finish Road Weekend

Richardson, Texas - Trinity's women's soccer team finished off a successful road weekend with a 3-0 shutout win at the University of Texas-Dallas on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers are ranked sixth nationally by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, and have opened the season with a 3-0-1 record.

Three Trinity goalkeepers combined for the team's third shutout in four games on Sunday, led by senior Katie Garrett.  Devan Osegueda and Lauren Goldberg combined to finish out the final 16:27 of the game, and Osegueda recorded Trinity's only save.

All-American Emily Jorgens got things started in the 10th minute for the Tigers, combining with Katy Lipscomb for the 1-0 lead.  Lipscomb's initial shot was saved, but not controlled, and Jorgens was there for the rebound goal that turned out to be the game-winner.

With less than two minutes left in the opening period, Shelby Guenthardt knocked in her first goal of the season to make it a 2-0 lead at halftime.  Kimberly Polasek was credited with the assist.

In the final minutes, Shelby Hopkins finished off the scoring with a goal on a free kick from outside the 18-yard box.  It was also the first goal of the young season for Hopkins.

Behind a solid effort on offense and defense, Trinity held a 12-0 lead in corner kicks in the game, as well as a 17-8 advantage in shots taken.  The Tigers put 11 of their 17 shots on goal, as UT-Dallas recorded eight total saves.

Trinity will return to the field on Friday, September 14, facing off against Our Lady of the Lake University at 7:00 p.m.  It will be the first home game of the 2012 season for the Tigers.
