#2 Women's Soccer Edges Mt. Union to Begin NCAA Playoffs

Bloomington, Illinois - The second-ranked Trinity women's soccer team opened the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship with a tightly played 2-1 first-round victory over Mount Union (OH) College on Saturday.

Mount Union struck first in the game, scoring in the 12th minute of action, putting Trinity behind in a game for just the second time this season.

Trinity answered with a goal just three minutes later, as Brigitte Taylor and Jordan Leeper combined for the scoring play. Taylor received the ball inside the box, and fired in the goal.

Yasmeen Farra scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 60th minute, knocking in a rebound goal for the Tigers.



The Tigers remained undefeated with a 21-0-0 record, while Mount Union finished its season with a 12-7-3 mark.

Yasmeen Farra scored her Tigers best 14th goal of the season, and also leads the team with seven game-winning goals.

Brigitte Taylor produced her seventh goal of the campaign, while Leeper is now tied for the Trinity lead with nine assists this year.

Trinity out-shot Mount Union 28-6 in the game, including a 16-2 advantage in the decisive second half.



The Tigers take on Hanover (IN) College in the second round of the tournament at 1:00 p.m. Sunday. The winner moves on to the next round of the NCAA Playoffs.
