Trinity Women's Tennis Defeats Willamette on Tuesday
San Antonio - The Tiger women's tennis team snapped its two-match losing streak with a 9-0 win over Willamette University on Tuesday afternoon.
Trinity improved to 9-5 this season with the victory, which was the third shutout of the season for the Tigers.
Three doubles points started the day for the Tigers, winning 8-3 at No. 1 and No. 2, as well as 8-2 at the third position.
Mackenzie Knoop and Thavindra Ekanayake teamed up for the win in the top spot in doubles, then took victories at the top two spots in singles. Knoop won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1, while Ekanayake took a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
Katie Griffith and Kylie Hornbeck also scored two points each for the Tigers. The two Tigers combined to win at No. 2 doubles, then won 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3 singles (Griffith) and 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles (Hornbeck).
Lavinia Bendandi took a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles, while Stephanie Williamson finished off the sixth line with a 6-2, 6-1 win. Williamson also teamed up with Kathleen Lundquist to score the win at No. 3 doubles.
Hornbeck and Ekanayake lead the Tiger team with 11-3 overall records in doubles this season. Knoop and Ekanayake hold the top doubles record at 9-5.
Trinity will continue its long home stand with a tripleheader on Saturday, March 31. The Tigers will host Southwestern University (9:00 a.m.), Colorado College (1:00 p.m.), and Austin College (5:00 p.m.). Trinity plays its next eight matches in San Antonio.
