Trinity Blanks Hardin-Simmons in Regular Season Finale
San Antonio - The Tiger women's tennis team finished off its regular season schedule with a 9-0 win over Hardin-Simmons University on Saturday.
Trinity won its seventh consecutive Division III match, and improved to 15-7 overall this year. The Tigers stand 13-3 against D-III opposition.
The day started with Trinity taking all three doubles points to take the early advantage. Katie Griffith and Kylie Hornbeck highlighted the doubles action with an 8-0 victory. The duo then went on to nab two points in singles as well. Griffith took a 6-1, 6-4 at line three, while Hornbeck was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 4 singles.
Mackenzie Knoop and Thavindra Ekanayake also scored two points each for the Tigers today. The duo won 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, then Knoop also won 7-6, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Ekanayake won 6-1, 6-3 from her second position in singles.
Lavinia Bendandi (6-0, 6-1) and Melissa Ponder (6-1, 6-2) finished off the scoring for the Tigers with two singles victories at line five and six. Kassie Seger and Stephanie Williamson took an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles earlier in the day.
The Tigers will compete at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships next weekend in North Little Rock, Arkansas. The bracket has not yet been decided, but the action begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 27.
