Fredericksburg, Virginia- The 17th-ranked Trinity women's tennis team beat #22 Skidmore (NY) College 5-4 Saturday, at the University of Mary Washington.
Trinity was able to get ahead earlier as they took a 2-1 lead after doubles. Marie Lutz and Zoe Kaffen won #1 doubles, while Caroline Kutach and Andrea De Leon took the third match. Liza Southwick and Mary Kaffen were edged 9-8 in #2 doubles.
Kutach gave the Tigers a 3-1 lead by winning #2 singles. Lutz increased the lead with a third-line victory, and the clincher came on the fourth line courtesy of Zoe Kaffen.
Southwick lost a tough three-setter at #1 singles and Mary Kaffen also dropped a three-set match on the fifth line. De Leon came up short at #6 singles.
Trinity now stands at 10-6 overall and is 10-3 against NCAA Division III teams.
Kutach and De Leon remain flawless with their 10-0 record at #3 doubles. Zoe Kaffen, the match clincher, stands at 10-4 in singles.
The Tigers wrap up their road trip Sunday by taking on second-ranked Williams (MA) College at 8:00 EST.
