Volleyball Beats Our Lady of the Lake for Fifth Straight Win

San Antonio - Trinity's volleyball team earned a 3-2 victory over Our Lady of the Lake University on Wednesday evening, extending the team's winning streak to five matches.

The Tigers improved to 6-9 with the win, which was Trinity's sixth five-set match of the season.  Trinity lost the opening set 24-26, then rallied to win 25-18 and 25-12 and take a 2-1 lead.  Our Lady of the Lake edged the Tigers 25-23 in the fourth, but Trinity took back the momentum to grab a 15-10 win in the fifth.

Layne Hubbard led the Tigers to the victory, tying for the match lead with 13 kills and recording a team-best four service aces.  She also added 13 digs and a block.

Maggie Emodi also had 13 kills for Trinity, while Erin Cusenbary finished with 10 kills.  Cusenbary, who is the reigning Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, also hit .400 for the match to lead all players.  

Maryn Swierc led all players with 37 assists to go with her 10 digs, two blocks, two aces, and three kills.  Meredith Erwin and Shannon Courtney also had double-digit digs in the match.  Erwin led Trinity with 16 digs, while Courtney had 12 total.

Kelsey Daniel led Trinity with seven blocks, while Jana Tucker added four kills and four blocks for the Tigers.

Trinity will return to action tomorrow night, taking on future SCAC schools Schreiner University and Texas Lutheran University.  Both schools will join Trinity in the league next school year.  The matches are scheduled for 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. in Sams Gymnasium.
