Trinity Finishes Regular Season With Wins Over UT-Dallas and UMHB

Georgetown, Texas - The Tiger volleyball team wrapped up its regular season schedule with a pair of wins at the Southwestern Halloween Tournament, beating UT-Dallas 3-1 and Mary Hardin-Baylor 3-0.

Trinity improves to 19-14 with the wins.  The Tigers  earned three wins in four matches at the weekend tournament, hosted by Southwestern University.  Trinity won 25-22, 25-23, 20-25, and 25-22 against UT-Dallas, then took a 25-14, 25-22, 25-20 win in the finale against UMHB.

Maryn Swierc led the Tigers with double-doubles in both matches.  She had a team-best 34 assists and 10 digs against UMHB, and also had 48 assists and 19 digs against UT-Dallas to lead the team in both categories against UT-Dallas.

Maggie Emodi led four Trinity players with double-digit kills in the opener, finishing with 17 kills and a .280 hitting percentage.  Layne Hubbard added 13 kills and 18 digs to post her own double-double, while Erin Cusenbary had 12 kills and a .474 hitting percentage.  

Kelsey Daniel recorded 11 kills against UTD, and tied Cusenbary for the team lead with four blocks.  Leslie Green added 17 digs in the match, while Mia Mineghino and Shannon Courtney had 13 and 11 digs, respectively.

Courtney and Hubbard led the team in digs against UMHB, securing 11 digs each.  Hubbard also had three blocks and nine kills, while Cusenbary led the way with four blocks.

Emodi was Trinity's only player to reach double figures in kills in the second match, finishing with 11 to go with a .290 hitting percentage.  Daniel scored eight kills without making an error, leading the team with an outstanding .727 hitting percentage.

Trinity will open play at the SCAC Tournament next weekend, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  The Tigers have received a first-round bye as the #2 seed, and will face either Southwestern or Centenary on Friday, November 2, at 7:00 p.m.
