Volleyball Sweeps its Way to Four-Match Winning Streak

Tacoma, Washington The Tiger volleyball team scored a pair of 3-0 victories over Lewis and Clark (OR) College and Pacific Lutheran (WA) University in the opening of the UPS Invitational on Friday.

Trinity defeated Lewis & Clark 25-22, 25-19, 28-26 in the opener. Sarah Mullens posted a double-double of 15 kills and 17 digs, while registering a hitting percentage of .312. Kirby Smith also had double figures in two categories, with 12 kills and 14 digs. Erika Edrington supplied 44 assists in the matchup. Shannon Courtney added 15 digs, Jade Schoenberger fired up 10 kills, and Rebecca Hayes blocked five shots.

Trinity prevailed 25-21, 25-22, 25-14 against Pacific Lutheran to finish the first day's action, running the team's win streak to four matches, and improving to 6-3 overall this season. Edrington dished out 27 assists and posted eight digs. Courtney and Smith tied for the Tigers lead in digs, with 12 each. Mullens, Hayes, and Price paced the team with nine kills each.

The Tigers wrap up the tournament Saturday by taking on host Puget Sound at noon, and Linfield (OR) College at 4:00 p.m. The times listed are PDT.
