San Antonio - Trinity first-year outside hitter Avery Tuggle has been tabbed as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week.
Tuggle and the 10th-ranked Tigers went 3-1 at last weekend's Cal Lu Fornia Invitational at Thousand Oaks, California. Trinity stopped Pomona-Pitzer (CA) Colleges and ninth-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CA) Colleges on the opening day of the event. The next day, Whittier (CA) College edged Trinity, but the Tigers bounced back to beat #11 California Lutheran for the second time this season.
A strong offensive threat, Tuggle paced the Tigers with 16 kills against Claremont, while hitting .286. She recorded 12 kills against only one error against Cal Lutheran, posting a hitting percentage of .393. All told, Tuggle finished the weekend 38 kills and just 12 errors.
The Tigers (6-2) will host the Trinity Fall Classic Friday and Saturday. First on the docket is Hardin-Simmons (TX) University at 3:00 p.m. Friday, followed by a match with 14th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at 7:00 p.m. Saturday's slate has Trinity meeting East Texas Baptist University at 1:00 p.m., and a rematch with Pomona-Pitzer at 5:00 p.m.
