San Antonio - Trinity's Sarah Mullens has been tabbed as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Co-Defensive Player of the Week.
This marks the second time this season the Trinity junior has been selected for the league's weekly honor. Mullens turned in superb performances as the third-ranked Tigers defeated Sull Ross State (TX) University 3-0, and host University of Mary Hardin-Baylor 3-1 in Belton, Texas, last week. Mary Hardin-Baylor received votes in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III Poll.
Mullens posted 38 digs in the two matches, for an average of 5.43 per set. She registered 21 digs in the Sul Ross matchup, and 17 against Mary Hardin-Baylor. Mullens also fired in five aces, including four against the home Crusaders.
This season, Mullens leads the Tigers with 335 digs (4.53 per set), and is tops in aces with 46 to her credit. Mullens moved into the top 20 in school history with 1,254 career digs.
After winning the last four games consecutively, the Tigers are sporting an 18-3 overall record, and a 6-1 mark in SCAC play. The Tigers will take on NCAA Division II member St. Mary's University at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday. Trinity will host the SCAC Divisional Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
