Aly Hazelwood, a former Trinity All-American, begins her first year as assistant coach of the Tigers volleyball team.
Prior to returning to the Trinity campus, Coach Hazelwood was the assistant at Marietta College, an NCAA Division III institution in Marietta, Ohio.
Coach Hazelwood was an outstanding middle blocker for the Tigers from 2006-2009. She was elected to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America Team in 2009, as well as the All-South Region Team. Coach Hazelwood was selected for the All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Team in 2007 and 2009, and played on three SCAC Championship squads (2006, 2007, and 2008). The talented Coach Hazelwood contributed greatly to the Tigers 2006 and 2009 trips to the NCAA Division III quarterfinals.
Coach Hazelwood, a native of Baytown, Texas (Barbers Hill High School), is ranked second in Trinity career blocks, with 520. She is also third in single-season blocks, racking up 166 in the 2009 campaign.
In the classroom, Coach Hazelwood earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Trinity in 2009, with a minor in religion. She amassed a cumulative grade point average of 3.43, and was twice named to the Dean's List. Coach Hazelwood was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, volunteered for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, and volleyball's "Dig Pink," among other programs.
Young players have benefited from her experience, as she coached the Bexar County Volleyball Academy, and Trinity University Volleyball Camps, run by Tigers Head Coach Julie Jenkins.
Coach Hazelwood also put her experience to work in Trinity's Intramural program, serving as interim director of Intramurals and Club Sports from December 2009 to May 2010.
The versatile Coach Hazelwood held the position of director of volleyball operations and summer camps at Rice University, from August 2010 to July 2011. In the same time period, she coached the Texas Revolution Volleyball 18s Elite Team, with San Jacinto College Coach Sharon Nelson.
The 2011 Tigers advanced to the SCAC Championship match, and completed the season with a 22-16 record. A strong contributor to the season was Coach Hazelwood's younger sister, Maddy, a senior middle blocker. The two sisters played on the same Tiger teams in 2008 and 2009. A third Hazelwood sister, Audrey, is also a member of the Trinity team, but was injured and did not play this season.
