Wright won the Texas DIII Cross Country Championships to lead
the Tiger men to the team title, while Trinity junior Caitlin Masse won the women's race on Saturday at
Texas Lutheran University.
Wright finished third in last year's race, while Masse was the
runner-up to former Tiger All-American Emily Loeffler. Wright finished nearly 40
seconds ahead of teammate Chass Armstrong - who finished second - and the Tiger
men had five runners finish in the top 15. Zach Brush, an
All-American track & field performer for the Tigers, finished
fifth.
The men's team scored 28 points to win the title, beating
runner-up Southwestern
by 35 points. The Tiger men finished second at this meet
each of the last three seasons, and last won the title in 2004.
In the women's race, Trinity's Caitlin Masse finished nearly a
full minute ahead of her ne arest competitor to take the
victory. It marks the fourth straight season that a Tiger
runner has won the women's race (Loeffler won the previous
three). Jordan Hanson (14th) and Jenna
Price (19th) also finished in the top 20 for the Tigers, who
finished third overall.
Trinity's women's team was just eight points behind UT-Tyler for
second place, while McMurry won the team event. Trinity had
won the Texas DIII Championship three straight years heading into
today's race.
The Tiger teams will be back in action next week, returning to
Seguin, Texas, for the TLU Bulldog Classic.
