Box Score The men and women's cross country teams competed among mostly
Division I and II competition at the 22nd Annual Chile
Pepper Invitational. Junior Robert Edmonds
and first year Rosemary Steup took
the top spots for the Tigers.
The men placed 39th of the 48 teams who competed in
the 10k event. Edmonds, who notched a new 10k personal best
of 32:42.93, led the way with his 133rd place finish.
Three of the top five finishers for Trinity had at least a
forty-five second improvement in their finishing time from last
year on the same course. This list includes Edmonds, senior Adam Cribb (33:05.58), and sophomore Fransisco Escobedo, who finished strong with a time of
33:18.07. Rounding out the top five were sophomore Sal Perdomo
(33:50.23) and Senior Zach Brush
(34:17.72). Last year the men finished 15th out of the
29 teams that competed at the Chile Pepper meet with Chass
Armstrong and Bryant Wright leading the way with times of 31:37 and
31:47 respectively.
The women finished 39th of 56 teams with first years
filling all of the top five spots for the second meet in a row.
Rosemary Steup jumped up to fifth in the record books with an
impressive 18:34.34 for the 5k course. She placed 106th
out of the 366 collegiate competitors. Maddie Murphy moved
up to the second spot on the team, and sixth in the records, with
an amazing time of 18:39.71, just five seconds shy of teammate
Steup. This was a minute and thirteen second improvement from
Murphy's time at the Incarnate Word Invite just two weeks prior.
Rounding out the top five were Vanessa Moreno
(19:50), Jessie
Dean (20:10.95), and Jackie Newell
(20:26.37). All of the top five women set personal bests for
the 5k course. Last year the women's team finished 30th
out of 34 teams.
The Tigers take next week off as they prepare for the SCAC
Championship meet, which Trinity will host in nearby Seguin, Texas
on October 30, 2010. The men's race will be at 9:00AM with the
women following at 10:00AM.
