Box Score Trinity took the trip up to windy Winneconne, Wisconsin on Saturday to compete at the Brooks Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The meet boasted roughly ten (per gender) of the top ranked teams in the nation, as well as the course that will be used to host the NCAA DIII National meet in November. The Tigers finished 16th out of 43 teams on the women's side, while the men placed 27th out of 47 schools.
Leading the way for the women were sophomores Maddie Murphy (22:51) and Rosemary Steup (22:54) coming in 32nd and 36th place respectively for the 6,000m race. Rounding out the top five finishers were first-years Michelle Oberndorf (23:16), Jessica Pagano (24:34), and Autumn Kervella (24:38). The team totaled 477 points, four points and one place ahead of SCAC and Regional rivals Rhodes College. Emory University was the top finisher from the South/Southeast Region with an 8th place finish.
On the men's side, junior Francisco Escobedo led the way for the men, finishing 99th with a time of 26:34. This marks the second meet in a row that Escobedo has finished first for the team. Junior Mark Greene took the number two spot on the team for the first time in his career, running 26:54 with a 144th place finish. Rounding out the top five were Gerardo Hernandez (27:22), Sal Perdomo (27:42), and Brandon Douglas (28:05) finishing 212th, 247th, and 283rd place, respectively. The men's team's point total was 862, edging regional rivals UT-Tyler by five points and fellow SCAC competitor Rhodes by over one hundred points. Emory University was the top finisher from the South/Southeast Region with an 21st place finish.
The team will take next weekend off in preparation for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship meet, hosted by Sewanee University, which will take place on Saturday, October 29th.
