Box Score Sewanee, TN – The Tiger women made a return to the podium with a runner up finish at the SCAC Cross Country Championships, finishing a heart-breaking 4 points behind newly crowned champion Centre College. The meet was highlighted by a stunning individual win from Sophomore Maddie Murphy, who dominated the competition with a new personal record of 22:07.9 for the 6k distance.
Murphy led a trio of Trinity women in the top 5, as she was tailed closely by fellow sophomore (and last year's runner up) Rosemary Steup in 4th place, as well as standout first year Michelle Oberndorf, who held of a slew of rivals to finish in 5thplace overall. Oberndorf's time of 22:37 was also a personal best, well Steup's time of 22:24 was only 5 seconds off of her all-time best, set at the NCAA Championships last year. Murphy's win was the first SCAC title by a Trinity harrier since All-American Emily Daum (nee Loeffler) took first in the 2007 Championships.
The Trinity men were led once again by the junior duo of Sal Perdomo and Francisco Escobedo, who finished in 7th and 8thplace, respectively. This marks the first cross country all-conference honors for the pair. Rounding out the top five were sophomore Gerardo "GG" Hernandez in 29th place, first year Connor Amoruso in 34th, and junior Mark Greene in 35th. The meet was won by Colorado College, who scored an impressive 37 points, led by three time individual champion Jackson Brainerd
Both the men and women will be back in action in two weeks for the NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championships, to be held on the campus of Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, TX on November 12th. The top two teams and top seven individuals from that meet will be selected to compete at the NCAA Division III Championships on November 19th.
