Box Score San Antonio - Two Tiger teams won the season-opening Trinity Hokum Karem Relay Thursday morning, on an upper-campus course of 7,540 meters.
Each leg of the course was 1,885 meters, and two-person teams competed. Trinity, UTSA, and Texas Lutheran were the participating squads. A total of 19 women's and nine men's pairs made up the field.
Trinity juniors Sal Perdomo (Irving, Texas/jesuit College Prep) and Pancho Escobedo (San Antonio/Health Careers) won the men's event, with a combined time of 24:22. Sophomores and 2010 NCAA Championships qualifiers Rosemary Steup (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) and Maddie Murphy (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood) captured the women's race, clocking in at 28:59.
The Tiger men took places sixth through ninth: junior GG Hernandez (El Paso, Texas/Montwood) and first-year Ian Plantz (Georgetown, Texas/Georgetown), 25:43; junior Mark Greene (San Antonio/International School of the Americas) and first-year Connor Amoruso (East Northport, N.Y./Northport Senior), 26:01; junior Max Robinson (Kingwood, Texas/Northeast Christian Academy) and first-year Brandon Douglas (Plano, Texas/Plano West), 27:15; and sophomores Carlos Anchondo (Lockhart, Texas/Lockhart) and Joey Lucci (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay), 29:21.
Seventh-place went to Trinity first-year runners Michelle Oberndorf (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) and Jessica Pagano (Katy, Texas/Cinco Ranch), 29:55. The No. 8 slot was taken by sophomores Jackie Newell (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln Way East) and Vanessa Moreno (El Paso,Texas/Horizon). 30:17.
Junior Joy Lindig (Houston/Westchester Academy) and first-year Colleen Adams (Wall, Texas/Wall) placed 10th (31:15); while first-years Jenna Primeau (Derby, Vt./North Country Union) and Elyssa Garza (Fulshear, Texas/Foster) were right behind in 11th place (31:25).
First-year competitors Jessica Needle (Houston/Cypress Ridge) and Ali Salmon (San Antonio/Smithson Valley) finished 12th (32:00); and seniors Jordan Hanson (Issaquah, Wash.) and Julianne Schluntz (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) came in at No. 14 (32:15). Senior Kayleigh Byrne (San Antonio/Antonian) and sophomore Jessie Dean (Houston/Clear Lake) finished 16th (34:20).
The Tigers teams will next compete Saturday, Sept. 10, at the TLU Preview meet, on the campus of Texas Lutheran University in Seguin.
