Box Score San Antonio - Trinity's men's and women's cross
country teams swept the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
Cross Country Runner of the Week awards, as Sal Perdomo and Vanessa
Moreno earned the honor for the opening week of the season.
Perdomo and Moreno won the men's and women's Alamo City Opener
on Friday, August 31, to open the 2012 fall season. The Tiger
women finished second as a team, while the men won the team
event.
The win was the first individual title in the three-year career
for Moreno, who finished in 15:09 on the 4,000 meter course.
She was 12 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. This past
spring at the SCAC Track & Field Championships, Moreno took
SCAC titles in 1,500 meter and 5,000 meter events.
Perdomo, who is a senior captain for the Tiger men's team, also
won his first individual event in cross country. He was an
All-SCAC performer in both cross country and track during the
2011-12 school year. Perdomo was an All-Region selection in
cross country in 2010, and is Trinity's current record-holder in
the 3,000 meter steeplechase.
Both Tiger teams will be back in action at the Rice Invitational
on September 14, in Houston, Texas. The women's competition
begins at 6:15 p.m., while the men are scheduled to begin racing at
6:45 p.m.
