Box Score San Antonio - The Trinity Tigers men finished as the top NCAA Division III team, and the Tiger women placed second among DIII schools at their Alamo City Duals cross country meet Saturday morning at Olmos Basin Fields.
Texas Lutheran (59 points) won the women's 6k team event, UT-Brownsville (71) was runner-up, and Trinity place third overall, with 78 points. Angelo State (82) finished fourth, and Concordia (88) placed fifth. Rounding out the women's field were Southwestern (113) and Schreiner (191).
Angelo State (34) won the men's 8k run by one point over UT-Brownsville. The Tigers placed third overall with 77 points, and Southwestern (99) was fourth. Concordia (110) came in at No. 5, and Schreiner (168) had a No. 6 finish.
Trinity's Autumn Kervella completed the women's race in 24:39.59 for a fifth-place overall finish among 52 runners. Kervella was second among DIII competitors. Mariana Sigala (25:06.50) placed 12th, and Jessie Dean (25:54.26) was 16th. Ingrid Harb (26:36.08) held the No. 24 slot, and Natalie Belew (26:36.69) was 25th. Lilly Duarte of Southwestern won the event, clocking in at 23:04.67, and Vanessa Garcia of UT-Brownsville (23:36.68) was runner-up. Concordia's Megan Wagenaar finished third overall (and first among DIII runners), at 24:13.38.
In the men's event, the Tigers Zach Zimdars (29:2430) placed 13th in the field of 47 runners, and second in the DIII category. Ryan Hernandez (29:53.84) finished 16th, while Clay Orona (30:19.57) was 20th. Brandon Wilson (30:51.25) came in at No. 25, while Carlos Anchondo (30:51.42) was .17 seconds behind his teammate. Southwestern's Alex Medrano (29:04.92) led DIII entrants, and was 11th overall. David Guillen of UT-Brownsville (26:04.82) emerged as the winner, and Jamin Goecker of Angelo State (26:18/65) finished second.
Part of the Tiger team competed Saturday in the Hanover Pre-Nationals at Hanover, Indiana. Trinity's men are set for the Oct. 12 UIW (University of the Incarnate Word) Invitational at Live Oak, Texas. The Tiger women hit the road Oct. 19 for the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh meet at Winneconne, Wisconsin.
