Box Score San Antonio - Trinity's men's and women's
cross country teams both scored victories in the non-Division I
section of the UTSA/Ricardo Romo Classic on Friday
evening.
The Tigers competed against four other non-Division I schools in
both the men's and women's races.
Trinity's men scored 18 points, beating out Texas A&M
International Univeristy in second place (47 points), as well as
Southwestern University, Concordia (TX) University, and
Huston-Tillotson University.
The women won with a score of 17 points, snagging nine of the
top 10 spots. Texas Lutheran University (88 points) was the
runner-up, followed by Texas A&M University-Kingsville,
Southwestern University, and Texas A&M International.
Taylor Piske and Maddie Murphy each won their respective races,
and while Piske finished 11th among all competition, Murphy was
fifth in the overall race that included Division I teams.
Murphy, Vanessa Moreno, and Rosemary Steup took the top three
spots in the women's race, while Chris Soto finished as the
runner-up to Piske on the men's side. Gerardo Hernandez
(fourth) and Tristan Anderson (fifth) also posted times in the top
five.
Also scoring for the women were Michelle Oberndorf in fifth
place, and Nicola Hill in sixth for the Tigers. The remaining
scoring runner for the men's team was Phillip Flagg, who came in at
sixth.
Trinity will be off until October 5, when the teams will split
up for a pair of races. Some members of the teams will
compete at the Hanover Pre-Nationals Meet in Hanover, Indiana.
The rest of the men and women will be at the second home meet
of the year for the Tigers, at the Alamo City Duals, held at Olmos
Basin.
