Emily Daum Elected SCAC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year

San Antonio - Trinity's Emily Daum has been elected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year.

Coach Daum, in her second year at the Tigers helm, guided Trinity's men to the SCAC Championship last month at Sherman, Texas. The Tigers posted the second perfect score of 15 in the history of the SCAC meet. Trinity's women's team finished as runner-up to Colorado College.

Senior Taylor Piske won the 8k men's race in 27:37.8, and was named the SCAC Men's Runner of the Year. Sophomore Michael Erickson placed second, crossing the finish line in 27:52.5 at the Stone Oak Golf Club. First-year competitor Oliver Langselius registered a time of 28:04.6, and was tabbed as the SCAC Men's Freshman of the Year. Nine Tiger men earned All-SCAC accolades, which set a conference championship meet record for honorees..

Five members of the Trinity women's team secured All-SCAC status following the 6k event.  Sophomore Emma MacEachern placed third at 24:29.6. First-year Molly McCullough was seventh, clocking in at 24:56.0, and sophomore Melissa Whitman came in eighth, at 25.00.4.

Three runners are headed to the NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships Saturday, to be held at Winneconne, Wisconsin. The Tiger student-athletes earned slots after superb performances at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional last week at Kernstown, Virginia. Piske ran the 8k men's course at Kernstown Battlefield in 26:06.7, to finish sixth in a highly competitive field. Lagselius completed the event in 26.09, for a seventh-place finish. MacEachern placed eighth in the women's 6k, posting a time of 22:48.9. A total of seven Tigers earned All-Region honors, with four men and three women attaining the distinction.

In team standings at the Regional, Trinity's men placed third, their second-highest finish in history. The Tiger women wrapped up in the meet in fourth place.

Coach Daum has a history of success at Trinity,going back to her days as a Tiger runner. The talented and versatile Coach Daum, a 2009 Trinity graduate, was a four-time All-American in cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field. She also was a two-time SCAC Runner of the Year, in both cross country and track and field.
