Box Score San Antonio - Second-year Trinity men's and women's cross country Head Coach Emily Daum will have 15 newcomers on the squad for the 2015 campaign.
Twelve of the new Tigers hail from Texas, and one each come from California and Oregon. There is also a runner who hails all the way from Sweden to become a Trinity student-athlete. The newcomers join a list of 21 returnees, with 12 women's runners, and nine from the men's team.
With 15 members in this recruiting class, it marks the largest in Trinity cross country history, and it was aided by the current team helping recruit student-athletes that are as driven and determined as they are.
The new class boasts three men's runners who have run under 4:30 over 1600 meters, and four who have raced to sub-10:00 in the 3200 meters. Five of the newcomers have competed at their respective state cross country meets.
On the women's side, there are five runners who have run less than 20:00 in the 5000 meters, as well as three who have finished under 5:30 in the 1600 meters. Six of those ladies have also competed at the state cross country meet.
"I'm excited about not only their athletic ability, but the fact that all of these incoming student-athletes are just as competitive in their academics pursuits," revealed Coach Daum. "I can't wait to see what they can bring to our program and our university."
The Tigers begin their 2015 season September 1 by hosting the Alamo City Opener at San Antonio's Olmos Basin. Eight meets are scheduled, including the SCAC Championships October 31 at Sherman, Texas. The NCAA South-Southeast Regionals are slated for November at Winchester, Virginia. The NCAA Championships will be held November 21 at Winneconne, Wisconsin.
