Box Score Windcrest, Texas - The Trinity men's and women's cross country teams captured their second titles of the young season by winning both the team and individual titles of the Our Lady of the Lake University Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.
The Tiger men scored 21 points, and Trinity's women chalked up 41 in winning the championships. Ten teams were entered in each event. Senior Taylor Piske won his second race of the season, crossing the finish line in 25:57 of the 8k event - narrowly missing a personal best. Sophomore Emma MacEachern took top honors in the women's 5k, clocking in at 18:54. Trinity's squads won their Alamo City Opener meet on September 1, and Piske was the men's champion at that meet as well.
"Our men ran well today," said Coach Emily Daum. "Everyone was excited for the drop in humidity, as it can make a huge difference in race performance. We had a lot of great times for the women as well, edging out Division II and NAIA schools for the win."
In the men's race on Saturday, junior Austin Brown was runner-up to Piske, posting a time of 26:37 to beat his personal record by 20 seconds. Sophomore Jacob Hammond placed fourth, at 27 minutes flat to destroy his best time last year by nearly a minute. First-year runner Oliver Langselius came in at No. 5, just two seconds behind his teammate, and highlighting three first-year runners in the top six for the men's team.
Newcomer Molly McCullough was the second-place finisher of the women's race, a scant four seconds behind MacEachern. First-year Alison Hill rounded out the top-10 with a ninth-place performance, crossing the finish line in 19:24. Samantha Simank was the fourth finisher for the Tigers, racing home 40 seconds faster than her previous best.
The Tigers will next compete September 25 at the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Islander Splash at Corpus Christi, Texas.
