Box Score San Antonio - Members of the Trinity men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional on Saturday, November 16, at Memphis, Tennessee.
The men's 8k race starts at 11:00 a.m. (CT), and the women's 6k gets under way at 12:15 p.m. at Shelby Farms Park. Runners are vying for slots at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, which will be held Saturday, November 23, in Louisville, Kentucky.
The top two teams at regionals will advance to nationals, along with the fastest seven individual runners who are not members of those squads. There is also the possibility of at-large teams qualifying for the NCAA Championships - a decision which will be announced the day after the race.
Guided by sixth-year Head Coach Emily Daum, seven men and women will race in this year's Regional Championship. There will also be an alternate for each team.
Senior Brianna Ratliff, juniors Jordan Juran and Olive Pertuit, along with first-years Elaine Kaster, Anna King, Lynzie Kutsner, and Liliana Perez are the women's competitors. Junior Laurel Daughtrey is the alternate.
Ratliff earned All-Region honors last year with a 16th-place finish at the NCAA Regional held at Mount Berry, Georgia. Juran placed 48th in the postseason event. As a team, the Tiger women finished in fourth place. Molly McCullough, who graduated in 2019, finished second at Regionals and became Trinity's first back-to-back All-American with a #21 posting at the NCAA Championships.
The Tiger women won the 2017 NCAA Regional under Coach Daum's leadership and qualified as a team for the NCAA Championships. Coach Daum was elected the NCAA DIII Women's Cross Country South/Southeast Region Coach of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Tigers finished in 16th place at nationals.
Representing the Trinity's men's team at Regionals will be juniors Harry Bellow, Keaton Holt, and Jack Powers, sophomores Chad Conway and Jackson Meyer, and first-years Craig Sandoval and Ben Whittemore. Junior Aaron Garcia is the alternate runner.
Bellow earned All-Region accolades for the second straight year at the 2018 Regional with a 22nd-place finish. Holt missed the All-Region qualification by six slots after placing 41st in the race. The Tiger men placed seventh as a team, and 2019 graduate Elliot Blake qualified for the NCAA Championships. Trinity's men's team finished fifth at the 2017 Regional and third at the 2015 meet.
Earlier this month, the Tiger men and women finished as runners-up at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championships at Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Bellow led a group of four men's runners to earn All-SCAC honors with a third-place finish. It marked his third straight season to receive all-conference distinction. Ratliff also finished in third place, becoming an All-SCAC runner for the second year in a row. Four Tiger women garnered All-SCAC honors.
During Coach Daum's time at the helm, she has coached one All-American, 15 All-Region runners, four SCAC Runners of the Year, and 32 All-SCAC recipients.
