Three Trinity Runners Head to Cross Country Nationals

Box Score

San Antonio - Three student-athletes will represent Trinity at the NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships this Saturday in Louisville, Kentucky.

Junior Harry Bellow will compete in the men's 8k event. Senior Brianna Ratliff and junior Jordan Juran are the two Tiger runners in the women's 6k race. The National meet will be held at Louisville's E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park.

The National qualifications came about because of excellent performances at last weekend's NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Championships in Memphis, Tennessee.

Bellow earned All-Region honors for the third straight year and finished ninth in the individual men's event. He ran the 8k race with a personal-best time of 25:20.9 and will compete in Nationals for the first time in his career. Ratliff became an All-Region recipient for the second straight year with her 10th-place finish, clocking in with a personal-best mark of 22:03.6

Juran placed 14th at the Regional with a new personal record time of 22:18.3, and also picked up All-Region accolades. She gained a slot on the National list on Sunday. The top two Regional teams qualify runners for the NCAA Championships. The next seven runners, not members of the Numbers 1 and 2 teams, also qualify. Centre (KY) College was granted an at-large bid on Sunday, and Juran then finished with the qualifying group.

The Tiger women placed fourth at last weekend's Regional in Memphis, while the men came in at #11.

The 2019 event will mark the first time in Trinity cross country history the Tigers will send two female individual competitors to the NCAA Cross Country Championships. Ratliff and Juran were part of the 2017 women's squad which won the Regional and qualified for the NCAA meet as a team. Trinity finished in 16th place at Elsah, Illinois.

Head Coach Emily Daum  - herself a four-time Trinity All-American in cross country and track & field - had has runners at the NCAA Championships in five of her six years at the helm. In addition to the 2017 team appearance, Trinity's had three individuals - two men and one woman - qualify for Nationals in 2015. Last year, Molly McCullough became Trinity first back-to-back cross country All-American.

Saturday's men's 8k race starts at 10:45 a.m. EST, while the women's 6k event starts at 11:45 a.m.
