Dylan Harrison is set to begin his first season as the Tiger women's soccer head coach. The former Trinity men's soccer standout was coaching at Division I Nicholls State University before returning to his alma mater.
Coach Harrison reveals his love for his home state, as well as his unique plans for team travel in the future.
How do you motivate your team?
I try my best to make sure they have the confidence to take on the challenge of the moment then I allow for them to motivate themselves, I've found that each player is different.
What are some of your pregame rituals?
I run before every game, it puts my nerves at ease but still gives me the focus I need. It also allows for me to think through the starting lineup and key points that need to be addressed.
How did you get involved in sports? Or what sport did you play first as a kid?
My mom was my T-ball coach in Louisiana, if we didn't move to Texas when I was six I would have never played soccer. Who knows I could be in pros right now, playing for the Astros.
How do you like to travel to games?
I wish we had chariots, but we would need a lot of them so a good comfy bus usually works well.
Who is your favorite sports team/figure?
I have to pull for the Saints, I went to their first playoff game at home and moved back to Louisiana in 2009 - the year they won it all. It was a great year for the city!
Favorite color? Why?
Green, because it's all about the Benjamin's.
What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?
Sports Agent. I don't know too much about it but all the TV shows I have seen make it seem glamorous. Until you get the phone call in the middle of the night because your client did something stupid.
What sound do you love? The sound you hate?
Love when the other team hits a shot and the ball rattles the cross bar. I hate the sound when our team hits the cross bar.
What is your favorite word? Your least favorite word?
Saturday is my favorite. Monday is my least. Garfield was right Mondays are the worst.
If you were reincarnated as some other plant or animal, what would it be and why?
I had a dog named Beau that I'm pretty sure was me in a past life. She chilled all day, enjoyed casual walks, and would kill for a bowl of steamy queso. She lived the good life.
