Sherman, Texas - Trinity's baseball team finished off a two-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series at Austin College with a 2-0 win on Sunday afternoon.
The ninth-ranked Tigers improved to 26-7 overall and 11-5 in the SCAC. Austin College fell to 10-24 overall and 7-10 in conference play. Both teams finished with six hits, but it was Trinity that capitalized with the only runs of the game.
Trinity scored runs in the beginning and end of the game, scoring in the first and ninth innings. The Tigers loaded the bases with nobody out, but missed their chance for a big inning after leaving three runners on in the inning. A leadoff double in the ninth led to a big insurance run for Trinity, as Austin left two players on in the bottom of the ninth.
Zack Speer (5-0) earned the win, giving up no runs on six hits through 8.1 innings, and striking out three batters. Speer walked two batters in the ninth before giving way to Troy Ward, who finished off the game to earn his second save.
Chris Bianchi picked up two of the team's six hits, including the ninth-inning double that led to the second run of hte game. Christian Muscarello was 1-2 with a pair of sacrifice bunts and one RBI. Will Donnan drove in a run in the first after drawing a bases-loaded walk.
Trinity will be back in action on Tuesday evening, facing off against Concordia (TX) University for the second time this season. The Tigers won an 8-2 game against the Tornados in San Antonio earlier this season. Tuesday's game will begin at 7:00 p.m. in Austin, Texas.
