San Antonio - Trinity senior infielder John Tucker has been selected for the first D3baseball.com Team of the Week of the campaign.
His recent accolade comes days after being named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter of the Week. The fourth-ranked Tigers opened their home and season schedule with two victories over #8 State University of New York-Cortland last weekend. Trinity edged the Red Dragons 9-8 in the opener and then finished the series with a 10-5 decision.
Tucker certainly contributed to the Tigers' early success, as he batted 5-9 in the pair of games, along with scoring two runs and driving in seven. A critical RBI single by Tucker occurred in the first game with Cortland, which tied the matchup at 8-8 in the bottom of the ninth inning. He also drove in a run in the sixth which evened the score at the time.
In the first game, Tucker went 2-5 at the plate with two RBI and one run scored. Tucker hit 3-4 in the finale with five RBI and a double in his column, as well as crossing the plate for a run.
Trinity (2-0) will host Birmingham-Southern (AL) College in a three-game series this weekend. Friday's game time has been changed to 6:00 p.m., Saturday's will now start at 1:00 p.m., and the time of the first pitch of Sunday's remains at noon.
