#4 Trinity Storms Past Rochester for Saturday Victory

San Antonio – Trinity's fourth-ranked baseball team hammered out a 10-4 win over the University of Rochester (NY) on Saturday afternoon.



The Tigers jumped in front early with a run in the bottom of the first inning, thanks to Mason Meredith's two-out RBI single.

Rochester picked up its first hit of the game to lead off the third inning, manufacturing a run to tie the game 1-1.

Logan Morrison put Trinity back on top 3-1 with a two-out two-run double in the bottom of the fourth, but Rochester used a leadoff double in the top of the fifth to make it a one-run game at 3-2.

The Yellowjackets got the first two outs in the bottom of the inning, but Trinity had another two-out rally to put runs on the board. Dalys Binder lashed a two-run single to right field and the Tigers extended the lead to 5-2.

The Tigers faced the same situation in the sixth, but Rafe Chaumette singled to keep the inning alive, and Mason Meredith deposited his first home run of the season beyond the left field wall to make it a 7-2 Trinity lead after six innings.

Rochester stayed in the game with two runs on three hits in the seventh inning to cut the lead to just three runs, but Trinity relievers came in and allowed just one hit over the final 2.1 innings to shut down the visiting offense.

Trinity's bats put the game out of reach with three runs in the bottom of the eighth, starting with Chaumette's two-run triple down the left field line.

Rochester's only hit against Trinity relievers came on the last batter of the game, who was thrown out to end the game trying to stretch it to a double.



Trinity improved its record to 10-3 on the year with today's win, while Rochester suffered its fourth straight loss and now stands 1-4 this season.

James Nittoli (4-0) remained undefeated after allowing four runs on seven hits over 6.2 innings of action, striking out seven batters and issuing just one walk.

Dalys Binder picked up three of Trinity's 13 hits in the game, going 3-4 with two RBI and one run scored.

Mason Meredith was one of three other Tiger players who picked up two hits each. Meredith went 2-4 with three RBI and his first home run of the season.

Rafe Chaumette was 2-5 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Jake Martin was 2-5 with a pair of runs.

Logan Morrison drove in two runs with his second double of the season.



Trinity and Rochester will conclude the three-game weekend series with a Sunday afternoon matchup that will begin at 12:00 p.m.
