San Antonio – The fourth-ranked Tiger baseball team finished off a weekend series sweep over the University of Rochester (NY) with a 6-1 win on Sunday afternoon.
Both teams hit into double plays in the first inning, and the Tigers hit into another in the bottom of the second to keep the game scoreless after two.
Dalys Binder led off the fourth with a solo shot to left field to make it 3-0, but Trinity missed a chance for more in the inning. The Tigers loaded the bases with two outs, but left all three runners stranded to keep it a three-run lead.
The Tiger defense got two more double plays in the fifth and sixth innings to help keep the Yellowjackets off the board.
Trinity's only hit in the bottom of the sixth was Mason Meredith's two-out single to left field that brought in two more scores.
Blake Johnson dropped in a two-out single of his own in the seventh to drive home the final run for the Tigers.
Rochester avoided the shutout with a leadoff homer in the ninth, but that would be all the visitors could get as Trinity finished off the win.
The Tigers improved to 11-3 after Sunday's win, which capped off the three-game series with the Yellowjackets. Rochester fell to 1-5 with its fifth consecutive loss.
Ian Hussian (2-2) pitched six shutout innings to start the game for Trinity, giving up just six hits and a pair of walks.
Mason Meredith led three Tiger players with multi-hit games, going 3-5 with two RBI and his fifth double of the season.
Dalys Binder had his third multi-hit game of the series, picking up two hits that included his first home run of the year.
Blake Johnson went 2-4 with two walks to reach base four times on the day, scoring two runs and driving in another.
Trinity will host Millikin (IL) University on Tuesday, March 12, at 7:00 p.m.
