#4 Tigers Beat Austin College to Finish SCAC Series Sweep

San Antonio - Trinity's fourth-ranked baseball team finished off a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend series sweep with a 10-6 win over Austin (TX) College on Saturday afternoon.

Austin got the scoring started in the second inning, scoring an unearned run to take a 1-0 lead.

The Kangaroos then scored three more runs on four hits in the third to take a commanding 4-0 lead before Trinity had a hit in the game.

In the bottom of the inning, Rafe Chaumette hit a two-out line drive over the fence in right field for a three-run homer that brought the Tigers within a run at 4-3.

Austin turned a leadoff walk into another score in the fourth to make it a 5-3 game, but the lead would not last long.

Trinity scored three more times in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-5 lead, capped off by Jake Martin's two-out single with the bases loaded to bring in a pair of Tiger runners.

The scoring continued for the home team in the fifth as Michael Goodrich and Jack Vonderhaar drove in a pair of runs to make it an 8-5 Tiger lead.

An error in the top of the sixth dropped the lead to just two runs, but Trinity added insurance runs in the seventh and eighth to keep control of the game down the stretch.

The Tigers are now alone in first place atop the SCAC standings, sporting an overall record of 23-7 and a conference mark of 9-3.

Rafe Chaumette led the Trinity offense with a 3-4 performance that included his first home run of the season and four RBI total in the game.

Four other players had multi-hit games, including Michael Goodrich who went 2-4 with two runs and two RBI to go with his sixth double of the year.

Jack Wisniewski and Dalys Binder both batted 2-4 with two runs scored, while Jack Vonderhaar had two hits and two RBI on the day.

Leadoff hitter Blake Johnson reached base four times in the game, drawing three walks and scoring two runs.

Jake Martin drove in two runs in the game, which put the Tigers in front for good in the fourth inning.

Ian Hussian (3-3) earned the win in relief, striking out five batters in 5.1 innings, and allowing just one unearned run on two hits.

Trinity will finish off its 13-game home stand by hosting Our Lady of the Lake (TX) University at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9.
