#6 Trinity Men's Soccer Falls 3-1 to #19 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

Richardson, Texas - The sixth-ranked Tiger men's soccer team was upset in a 3-1 loss at the hands of #19 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday evening.

Claremont got on the board early with a goal in the 12th minute, which held up for a 1-0 halftime lead. Trinity's only shot on goal of the opening period came in the 42nd minute and the two teams combined for just five total shots in the half.

Just over a minute into the second half, Claremont got another score to quickly take control of the game. The Stags scored again less than three minutes later to make it a 3-0 Tiger deficit.

Duncan James kept Trinity from being shut out with his goal in the 83rd minute, which was the only on-target shot of the second half for the Tigers.

Claremont led 12-4 in shots in the second half and 15-6 overall in the game.

Trinity falls to 1-1-1 on the season with its first loss of the year, while Claremont is now 1-1-0 with the victory.

Duncan James scored the seventh goal of his career and the first of the young 2019 season.

Blake Lieberman allowed multiple goals in a game for just the seventh time in his 51 games played for the Tigers.

Since taking over the Tiger men's soccer program in 1991, Head Coach Paul McGinlay has never had a team start 1-1-1, and this year marks the first time since 1995 that Trinity didn't win two of its first three games.

Trinity will finish the weekend by playing against Hardin-Simmons (TX) University at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 8.
